Great Storyline and really keeps your attention

 Paranormal Romance (PNR, for short) is a true guilty pleasure for me. To me, this genre just ticks all the boxes. There’s always a great love story, tons of suspense, crazy good action, a swoony over-protective hero, and a purely evil bad guy. Awesome.

This story not only checked all the boxes, but it also managed to exceed my expectations. I didn’t read this book- I inhaled it like a starving man consumes a plate of bacon. Once I started reading, I was lost in the world of Perseus and Andromeda, and the deal Perseus’ father made with him for immortality.

Usually, when an author writes a tale about ancient mythological characters, he/she sticks with that theme and doesn’t add any other gods to the mix. But this author did an interesting mash up by also bringing the God of the Christians into the plot line. Mind. Blown. I couldn’t decide whether to shake my head or laugh at the absurdity of this twist, but it sure kept me reading. It also brought the Angel of Death into the story. He’s an interesting twist.

Perseus, who goes by David in the modern world, is an immortal demigod, thanks to Zeus, who is tasked with killing demons who hunt women. He’s been doing it for millennia, and the deaths of all those women completely haunt him. For brevity’s sake, we’ll just say he’s burned out on this dirty job.

Claire is a fierce, independent woman who wants to make her living as a sculptor, something she started doing to ease her mind following a traumatic event. She’s an interesting character; feisty and full of fight, she’s also tender, passionate, and a bit haunted. When she bumps into David, literally… with her truck… they have an instant sense of “something.” It’s almost like they’ve known each other before. David is completely mesmerized by Claire and decides to stick around and find out why she fascinates him so.

I found both main characters, David/Perseus, and Claire to be engaging personalities. The ancillary characters were equally well done. There’s a good deal of humor in this story, as most of these personalities enjoy a good sense of humor. I admit there were times when Claire’s independent and stubborn streak got on my nerves a bit. But as the story progressed, I realized she has exactly the personality this tale (and Perseus) needed.

The story line is as well done as the characters, occasionally flashing back to ancient Greece, then returning with ease to the present-day dilemmas. The plot moves swiftly and catches the reader in its flow from the very beginning. The author has an effortless, comfortable writing style that makes for enjoyable reading.

I completely savored this read and highly recommend it to fans of PNR, suspense, thrillers, or those who just enjoy a good story that happens to have supernatural beings. Readers will find some explicit material, as adult situations and language come into play occasionally. Neither is overdone in my opinion and fits the narrative nicely.
